Updated: May 7, 2020

Learn new skills, increase your job prospects, and even find ways to earn money during quarantine with these free online classes from Coursera, EDx, Yale, and more.

The global Coronavirus pandemic is literally changing everything. It seems that many of us will be stuck at home for some days. Still, this is not a reason to give up on your career or your dream. Convert this time into an opportunity and grab some new skills, learn that new programming language you kept postponing for different reasons or work on your personality development. Whether it is for a career switch or simply just to boost your job prospects or grow your business, learning new skills online to achieve your goals is no doubt a constructive way to cope with the current situation.

Here is a list of some of the best online courses you can explore to brush up on your skills during this downtime.

1) CS 50 Introduction to Computer science

By: Harvard/EDx

Type: Beginner

Language: English

No doubt that this course is the first course on this list. I’m having a hard time describing CS50, OK let's say it's just so damn good. This course by Harvard University is ridiculously dramatic and engaging at the same time. David Malan ( One of the best and the coolest teacher I've ever seen ) is too good at his job. The production value is pretty good (Afterall Its Harvard Univaesity ;). The lectures are available in 6k HD and VR. Who expected an online course on Virtual Reality?

I have also attended lectures from Stanford CS101, and Udacity CS 101 and without any doubt, Harvard’s introduction to computer science(CS 50) is my favourite. I would recommend this course to people from each and every Industry because at least I feel that everyone should have some basic programming skills just like everyone has a basic knowledge about maths.

2) The Software Architect Code Software Architect Code: Building the Digital World

By: Universidad Carlos III de Madrid

Type: Beginner

Language: English

Actually, this was one of my first online course which I've completed. The course has a lot to do with the interesting choice of topics, structure, and great visualizations. The info-graphics at the end of each section are brilliant! The presentation quality of the tutors varies, with Paloma Diaz standing well ahead in their group. There are however severe "quality control" issues. The English accent of the professors was a bit confusing. I frequently had to guess what the actual question was during the quizzes. There are also a couple of lectures that need an overhaul, for example, the lecture on Big Data was underestimated. As Big Data will play a very important role in building the Digital World, a high-quality lecture on the topic is a real must.

Even though there was a very little problem with the teaching accent, overall the course and its content were very good. The topic was quite unique on the online course platform.

3) Becoming an Entrepreneur

By: MIT/ Launch X

Type: Beginner

Language: English

What do you expect when two big names (MIT, Launch X) come together? A really amazing course!! I can give a guarantee that no one can get bored in this course. This course is like a mixture of 30% comedy and 70% learning. So you laugh and learn. I have followed this course when I was a novice in this field. Now, I can say that I have a solid base to continue improving myself to launch my business. I must take each word spelt by Laurie Stach(the course instructor) and dig deep in it to better to take advantage and be equipped with the right tools to guarantee my business’s success.

In the end, I would say that it's a course that can give you the power to control the world and its content. because when you are an entrepreneur you think about others constantly you make them live through your inspiration.

4) Dynamics and controls:

By: Politecnica Valencia

Type: Beginner

Language: English

This course is totally based on controls, the basic

concept of system and impact in all human activities. In this course, there are

six modules and each module has 3-4 sessions. This course explains the examples

of different signals and system there, models properties and much more.

Assuming a general knowledge of the world either inside the or outside the body. The

course contains the generic concept of operators we will learn how to analyse the

properties of the system. so in this module, we will analyze the perspectives of the control and which are control challenges.

This course explains the static and dynamic behaviour of the system. By which we can know the full history of systems and that is the main part of this course.

5. C programming: Advanced data types

Type: Beginner

Language: English

In this course, you can define your own data types in C, and use the newly created types to more efficiently store and process your data. We can define new data types to store multiple data items in one variable and create, initialize and modify variables of these new types. Sort or search lined lists of structures. We will learn how to find and explain the memory usage of a structure and use pointers to structures. In this course, you will learn the principles of C programming and start coding hands-on in a browser tool that will provide instant feedback on your code.

You will get started with C and learn how to write your first programs, how to make simple computations and print the results to the screen, how to store values in variables and how to repeat instructions using loops. We will learn how to define your own data types to store multiple data types in one variable.

I have found that the course explains full methods of programming in c with there examples and stepwise methods how to learn.

These were our top recommendations for the best online courses

Do not forget to get that Fancy certificate at the end of the course.
